Ciphergrove keeps your photos, videos, documents and notes encrypted on your own device. There is no account to create and no cloud. Your files stay with you.
Ciphergrove was called Cryptomere before version 2.0. It is the same app, with the same vault and the same privacy rules. Nothing in your vault changes with the name.
What it does
Encrypted on your phone
Every file is encrypted with AES-256, and the keys are protected by your phone’s secure hardware and your PIN or biometrics.
Any kind of file
Photos, videos, GIFs, text, PDFs, audio and other documents, in folders you can search, sort and tag.
Recovery you control
A 24-character recovery code and encrypted backup files mean you are never locked out by a changed phone setting. We cannot recover your files for you, so you keep the code.
A second vault
A second PIN opens a separate vault with its own files, recovery code and backups. Nothing inside it shows that another one exists.
Lock a folder
Give a folder its own PIN. Its pictures and files stay out of sight until it is typed.
Word and Excel inside the vault
Open and edit Word and Excel files, and view PowerPoint, without taking them out of the vault.
Panic wipe
One wipe PIN, or a button, erases every vault when you need it to. There is no undo.
Private browser
Download straight into the vault, never to your phone’s public storage.
Phone-to-phone transfer
Move a folder or your whole vault to another phone directly over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, with no server in between.
Back up to your own server
Send the encrypted backup to a NAS or server you control (WebDAV, SFTP or a Windows share), or to a folder, SD card or USB drive. It can run by itself when you unlock. Nothing goes to us.
Archive big files
Move files you rarely open to your server and free the space on the phone. They stay in the gallery, marked, and come back with a tap.
Files on an SD card
Keep the vault’s encrypted files on an SD card instead of phone storage, and move them back whenever you like.
Free, with an optional Pro
Ciphergrove is free and shows a banner ad from Google AdMob. Ciphergrove Pro, a subscription through Google Play, removes ads and adds power features such as archiving files to your server and advanced backup. Everything that keeps your files safe and private stays free, and nothing you stored is ever locked if you stop. The ad service never receives your files or file names. Available in 72 languages
Ciphergrove follows your phone’s language, and on Android 13 and newer you can choose a language for the app in your phone’s settings.
